Data Dots
MicroID is distributing an identification product called Data Dots that places a unique code embedded within a microscopic film strip on any object, from a car to a purse to a book. It is meant to enable that object to be returned if recovered.
A black light can be used to detect and read them, for the glue adhering a Data Dot film strip to an object glows under such illumination.
Data Dots are read through a microscope, and the owner then can be located through an online database by DataDots USA that is available only to law enforcement.
Modesto, Calif., law enforcement check for Data Dots if they are mentioned in a stolen car report.
Today, BMWs sold in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom possess Data Dots pre-sold. Some California automobile dealers are now offering Data Dots to customers.
