Nypd Real Time Crime Center Expands
The New York City Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center quickly analyzes homicides and shootings to assess crime patterns and provide information about potential suspects in real time.
The center was recently expanded to include other serious crimes, a move that Mayor Michael Bloomberg says “ensures that our detectives have the most sophisticated resources at their disposal to stop crimes before they become trends and catch criminals before they strike again.”
The center was also upgraded to include arrest records from as far back as 1995, a new search tool, and visualization technology that includes descriptive information about the location of the crime and the suspects.
Detectives in the city’s five boroughs can access the data wirelessly, thanks to the purchase of 175 new laptops.
