Permalight safety products shine with nonelectric, nonradioactive light to mark corridors, doorways, and stairwells for emergency evacuations. Pigment phosphors absorb light, store its energy, and then glow in the dark. Photoluminescence has high initial brightness that fades gradually and recharges when exposed to light source. Products use both strontium-aluminate (long charging time and luminance under cool white/fluorescent light) and zinc-sulfide (short charging time by warm light and up to 8 hrs. luminance) matched to safety requirements, light sources, and placement.
