On Dec. 26, 2004, a tsunami hit Asia, wiping out families, homes, businesses and vital infrastructure. The Washington-based National Association of Counties (NACo) has called for continued support from counties to help affected countries rebuild. Below are local government efforts.

donated by the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians and the United Auburn Indian Community.
$100,000
in matching funds to local donations pledged by Polk County, Iowa, officials.
$10,000
donated by Oakland County, Mich., employees.
$5,000
donated by Washington-based NACo to Habitat for Humanity Tsunami Relief.
$10
asked by Los Angeles County, Calif., officials from each of the county’s 91,000 employees.
