Police Web Site Links San Jose Residents To Crime Data
San Jose police have launched a new Web site to keep local citizens aware of criminal statistics near their homes. Residents can access information on how many assaults, rapes, burglaries, and other crimes were committed near their homes in the last week via the Web site, www.sjpd.com.
The city became the biggest in the nation to provide such information via the Internet. Detailed crime reports, including exact location of crimes, are not available on the Web site, but users can search crime statistics based on beat blocks.
Beat blocks can measure several city blocks or sections of a neighborhood, depending on location. 9/9David Vossbrink, a representative for San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzalez, said the Web site gives citizens access to “powerful information” that enhances safety.
