San Diego businesses may be in for power rate increase
On Tuesday, San Diego community and business leaders warned that more than $1 billion worth of power contracts may be shifted onto the backs of local ratepayers very soon. The California Public Utilities Commission is expected to vote on whether to come up with a new way of splitting payments for the costly power contracts secured for the state in the 2000-01 power crisis. The proposal, written by Southern California Edison which serves the greater Los Angeles area, could lower its rates and increase San Diego Gas and Electric’s charges. If approved, the reallocation could increase energy bills for businesses by $500 per month. San Diego residential users are a little more insulated from the cost increases because of a bill passed in 2001, setting a limit on what rates can increase. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=312&ncid=312&e=6&u=/sddt/20040818/lo_sddt/cityleaderspowercontractchangesbadforregion
