In Ohio, counties need help with rabid animals
Lake and Wayne counties, Ohio, have been battling rabid animals recently — raccoons and bats — so when a resident recently spotted what he thought was a rabid skunk, he assumed that he would get prompt attention to the matter. But he did not. Instead, after being passed around virtually every agency there was in the area, including the county Health Department and county Animal Control, he learned that there was no agency that would help him get rid of the skunk. Officials told him that he could trap the skunk, take it to a local veterinarian to be euthanized and then, it would be sent off for testing — all at his own expense. He was also informed that this policy is no different anywhere else in the state. In the end, a neighbor killed the skunk, but not before it had been in several fights with neighborhood cats. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/news/local/9354119.htm
