Tsa Pledges $37.5 Million To Chicago Aviation Security Efforts
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is negotiating an agreement with the City of Chicago for $37.5 million to help offset the costs of moving the checked baggage explosives detection systems (EDS) from airport lobbies to more efficient behind-the-scenes locations for various terminals at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
“TSA continues its commitment to the City of Chicago by assisting with these essential measures to meet growing demand and maintain the highest security standards for O’Hare Airport,” said Rear Adm. David M. Stone, Acting TSA Administrator. “These funds will help defray costs of installing in-line baggage screening systems at this critical airport in our Nation’s transportation system.”
TSA continues to work with Congress and the aviation community to deploy permanent baggage screening solutions. These include installing EDS machines that are integrated with airports’ in-line baggage conveyor systems. TSA has authorized nearly $1 billion for these efforts over the next three years.
