On Wednesday, 100 blocks of downtown Spokane, Wash., began hosting one of the largest deployments of wireless Internet coverage, also known as a Wi-Fi. Activated by city officials and private developers, the zone uses a new technology that allows Internet signals to be transmitted more than a mile, far beyond the traditional coverage area. The city helped build the network for its own use, and the cost of the project is between $50,000 and $75,000. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/06/23/spokane.wireless.ap/index.html
