Hartsville, S.C.’s City Council recently added a two-cent hospitality tax that is confusing not only the customers at city restaurants, but the business owners as well. Even the city’s finance director has said that the city is not sure of how many places will be required to tax their customers starting July 1, but that only those businesses within the Hartsville city limits are bound by the increase. At this time, the city is trying to get a list together of those places so that they can send out the notice out of the items and procedures falling into the new tax category.
