Texas Law Enforcement Agency Upgrades High-Speed Wireless
The Harris County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office is giving a high-speed mobile system to about 600 patrol vehicles and 300 detectives, replacing a cellular digital packet data system.
The Sierra Wireless CDMA2000 1X network offers greater coverage and higher speeds, so that users will be able to access maps and photographs as well as federal and state databases and motor vehicle information.
Patrol officers will be able to file automated accident reports and issue citations in real time, and do the same with AMBER alerts.
“High-speed technology now empowers our officers with all of the tools they need to get the job done quickly,” says the office’s network administrator, Willie Mata. He adds that the change will increase public safety and reduce departmental costs.
