Quest Software, Inc., a provider of application management solutions, announced that the U.S. Army Product Manager Business Enterprise Systems (PM BES), in coordination with the Army’s Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM) and the Army’s CIO/G-6 office, has selected Quest’s Microsoft Management Solutions products for migrating and managing the command’s Microsoft network infrastructure. NETCOM purchased 375,000 licenses of Quest Reporter, Quest ActiveRoles, Quest Migrator, and associated consulting and mentoring services.
SAFLINK Corp., a developer, marketer, and integrator of biometric security solutions, announced that it has received an order from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Budget (HCOB) for a biometric security deployment designed to protect sensitive computer systems and documents at HCOB.
IR Recognition Systems, the biometric component of Ingersoll-Rand’s (IR) Security & Safety Group’s Electronic Access Control Division (EACD), announced that Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County, IL, is using biometric HandReaders to control access to the base from the Shiloh-Scott MetroLink station.
The total workforce numbers more than 13,000 people, including Air Force Reserves, National Guardsmen, civil service, and other civilian employees. It also provides services for more than 14,000 retired military personnel in the region.
Austin Independent School District (AISD), one of the fastestgrowing districts in Texas, uses ARCHIBUS/FM, an infrastructure and facilities management solution, to develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of its space and its usage. As a result, AISD can easily track and report defensible facilitiesrelated information to state and federal authorities. Meanwhile, standardized inspection surveys increase accountability and make the schools safe and comfortable for students, faculty, and staff.
Severn Trent Services announced that its contract with the Borough of Boyertown, PA, has been extended for an additional five years. Severn Trent Services will continue to provide full-service contract operations and maintenance of the water and wastewater treatments plants. Severn Trent also provides water and sewer line repair and maintenance, watershed protection, capital projects management, meter reading, and customer service for the borough. The contract extension is valued at approximately $3.4 million.
Northrop Grumman Corp. has been selected by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services’ Division of Public Health to direct the installation and implementation of the Delaware Electronic Reporting Surveillance System (DERSS), a first step in the creation of a statewide, disease surveillance and management system.
Clark County Public Transportation Benefit Area Authority (C-TRAN), in Vancouver, WA, recently purchased ten under-30-ft. Opus low floor buses from Optima Bus Corp. C-TRAN’s decision to purchase the Opus low-floor buses demonstrates to citizens that the authority is listening to their concerns of the big empty buses. “The low-floor design of these Opus buses,” explains Lynne Griffith, C-TRAN’s Executive Director/ CEO, “will work very well on some of our routes that travel through neighborhood streets while adding a fresh new look to our fleet.”
Accela, Inc., a provider of government enterprise management software solutions, announced that the City of Pittsburgh, PA, has selected Accela Asset Management to automate all work orders, inspections, costing, and maintenance schedules for the Public Works Department. The Department is in charge of street and park maintenance, as well as environmental services such as recycling and animal control.
The software provides the city with a centralized database, giving employees the ability to share data and access up-to-date information about a particular asset, inspection, or work order.
The City of Tigard, OR, offering more than 300 acres of public parks, greenways, and natural areas, has selected RecWare recreation management software to automate its entire park and recreation facility reservation process. With RecWare’s new RecNet software, Tigard’s Public Works Department is debuting Internet reservation for its park facilities using a Web-based, hosted solution.
Vanguard Response Systems, Inc., announced the U.S. Marine Corps has placed a repeat order for 15 sets of the Universal Containment System that consists of a lightweight, tent-like enclosure of specialized fabric that is filled with a special patented foam to absorb blast and fragments and also neutralize biochemical substances.
Mobile Satellite Ventures has deployed MEDSAT, a satellitebased emergency communications system, across the State of Connecticut. The state’s Department of Public Health (CT-DPH) is the lead agency coordinating public health communications to respond to a bioterrorism event or other health emergency.
Funded by the state’s CDC Public Health Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response grant, MEDSAT connects the CT-DPH Command Post to all 32 Connecticut-based hospitals, the State of Connecticut Emergency Operations Center, and the Connecticut Hospital Association. “We looked at hospitals as an important partner [with] which to build this infrastructure,” says Michael Purcaro, Communications Manager and MEDSAT project leader for the CT-DPH.
