City Crime Tracker Gets A High-Tech Grand Prize
The Chicago Police Department’s Citizen and Law Enforcement and Analysis and Reporting (CLEAR) computer system won CIO magazine’s grand prize for innovative information systems.
The system uses reported crime statistics and information from officers on the street to determine when and where crimes are occurring and which suspects are most probably involved.
Murders and shootings have greatly decreased in Chicago as deployment operation centers can make temporary deployments of tactical and special operations officers in crime hot spots.
CIO feels that CLEAR, which will save millions in operating costs for Chicago police, will be a crime statistics analysis model for the rest of the country. The system is already slated for use by Illinois State Police.
