Federal judge says Philly firefighters can make political donations

Philadelphia firefighters now have the green light to donate money to political candidates and political action committees. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, a federal judge has “ruled unconstitutional a provision of the 51-year-old Philadelphia Home Rule Charter that prohibits firefighters from making political contributions.” The ruling of U.S. District Judge Stewart Daizell came in a civil-rights lawsuit filed by the Philadelphia Fire Fighters Union Local 22. A city spokesman did not comment on the likelihood of an appeal, telling the paper that officials had yet to review the ruling. For more information, visit
