The City of Goodyear, Arizona, (population 30,000), Public Works Department, a customer-oriented local government, is seeking a Superintendent of Operations. This is a dynamic, fast paced department of 69 employees, with an annual operating budget of $14 million and CIP of $30 million. Major projects now underway include the development of the 27 Acre Municipal Park, 100 Acres Regional Park, I-10 &Bullard Traffic Interchange, City-wide Streets Preservation Project, Fire Station Facilities, and Major Street Design and Construction throughout the City. This position’s primary responsibility is managing day-to-day operations of five of the eight line Divisions (Street Transportation, Parks, Aquatics and Recreation, Facilities Maintenance, and Equipment Management). The Superintendent is a member of the top management team of the City of Goodyear and will play a major role in assisting the Director of Public Works with key strategic issues and major policies that directly impact service delivery. The ideal candidate: takes initiative; is ethical, honest and fair; inspires teamwork through innovative and creative performance practices in the midst of a fast pace environment with constantly shifting priorities; is experienced in personnel matters; has excellent oral, written, and listening skills; is sensitive to people who have different values and who come from different cultures; is a strategic thinker who sees the “big picture;” and is politically astute and sensitive. Minimum requirements include: Three years of responsible experience in major municipal programs or related public works operations or administration, including three years in management and administrative capacity and a BachelorÕs Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Transportation Management, or related field. Master’s degree and certification/registration as a Professional Engineer are desirable but not required. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
