Back in session: Fulton County, Ga.’s Magistrate Court reopens
Fulton County, Ga.’s two magistrate courtrooms were back in session on Thursday after being closed the day before. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), Fulton County State Court Chief Judge Albert Thompson re-opened the courtrooms after a meeting with the county manager. On Wednesday, Thompson closed the magistrate courts to protest the county’s request that he cut his budget by 5 percent. Thompson, who has claimed that his court is already overburdened and needs more resources, told the AJC that he and County Manager Thomas Andrews “reached an accord” and that he “received some assurance that financial resources will be provided” to help the court.
