EXTRA, EXTRA/Moving to the country? Consider this

Living in the country can be downright intoxicating so much so that when the wind blows, it just might make you pass out. To give potential residents

Living in the country can be downright intoxicating — so much so that when the wind blows, it just might make you pass out. To give potential residents a drift of what country living is like, the Ottawa County, Mich., Planning and Grants Department began spreading the word — and the smell — to homebuyers in July.

The department’s scratch-and-sniff brochure captures the essence of the manure scent that does not translate in photographs of the county’s picturesque landscape. Realtors, mortgage lenders, title companies and county departments are distributing the brochure to educate homebuyers about problems they might not have anticipated. Want to smell for yourself? Contact the Ottawa County Planning Department at (616) 738-4852 or [email protected].
