County Site Maps Car Wrecks
Suffolk County in New York now has a website specifically aimed at reducing car accidents in the county. The site, which was recently launched, compiles car accident statistics, and plots on a map where the accident occurred and what time of day.
The system shows a blue dot for accidents that result in injuries, and a red dot for accidents that result in death; minor accidents are not documented because they would overload the map.
Users can look at overall county trouble spots, or zero in on specific streets and neighborhoods.
Suffolk County has 1.5 million residents and roughly 35,000 car accidents annually, local officials are hoping the site will educate citizens and increase their awareness about car accidents in the community.
