According to the National Association of Counties, U.S. local governments spend more than $11 billion per year on energy to run their office buildings, public spaces and street lighting and waste an estimated $3.4 billion because of inefficient equipment. In many cases, energy expenses in public buildings are second only to salary expenses.
To solve that problem, NACo, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has created the Energy Efficiency Network. The network is designed to provide counties with training, support staff and financial assistance to implement or expand existing cost-saving energy management strategies.
