Grants available for county GIS development
The National Association of Counties and Redlands, Calif.-based ESRI have launched the Technology Foundation Grant Series to provide geographic information system (GIS) software, training, support and data to NACo members. The series offers grants valued at more than $2.5 million for GIS for counties that want to develop their existing GIS and for counties that want to start developing a GIS.
NACo will administer the grant series and award 200 grants to counties that want to begin a GIS and 100 grants to counties that already have a GIS. NACo and ESRI will jointly issue a Best Practice Guide that reports the methods and procedures used by the grant recipients.
The awards will be announced in three phases: on April 30, 2001; September 1, 2001; and April 30, 2002.
