New Jersey local governments receive money for technology
New Jersey’s Acting Governor, Donald DiFrancesco, has signed legislation to establish the Local Unit Electronic Technology Pilot Program and Study Act and to appropriate $150,000 to the Department of Community Affairs. The pilot program will allow the purchase of certain commodities and services and the sale of surplus propert by local government units using electronic technology.
The Director of the Division of Local Government Services in the Department of Community Affairs will study the feasibility and desirability of using electronic technology by local units. Within three years of the program’s purchases and sales, the director will report to the Local Finance Board, the Governor and each member of the Legislature whether the program should be continued.
