North Miami police headquarters dedicated
North Miami, Fla. – The city recently dedicated its new police headquarters building, a 39,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility named for Sgt. Steven Bauer, a local police officer killed during a bank robbery. The building is dedicated to Bauer and the two other North Miami officers, Carl Mertes and Lynette Hodge, who were killed in the line of duty.
Financed through a $5 million bond issue passed by taxpayers 10 days after Bauer’s death, the building features holding cells secured by clear lexan security walls rather than bars. It also has a sally port for drive-in prisoner processing, as well as processing for vehicles involved in crime investigations. Architects Design Group, Winter Park, Fla., designed the building, which was constructed by Allstar Building Corp., Miami.
