The Santa Ana, Calif., Police Department won The Battle of the Badges over the Orange County Sheriffs Department in a 10-week weight-loss challenge that began in January. Twenty law enforcers set out to lose at least 10 percent of their body weight by April 23. Following the “eat better, move more and stress less” philosophy and the training program offered by event sponsor Lindora Medical Clinics, the sheriffs lost a combined 12.19 percent, and the officers lost 15.4 percent. In all, participants lost 722.6 pounds, and, on average, participants also reduced their blood sugar 12 percent, triglyceride levels 54 percent, LDL cholesterol 22 percent and waist circumference 15 percent.
