Portland sets the pace for sustainability
Portland, Ore., is the most sustainable city in the nation, according to San Francisco-based SustainLane’s U.S. City Rankings. SustainLane analyzed 50 major cities’ performance in 16 areas of urban sustainability — an approach to planning that emphasizes the efficient use of current resources to conserve them for future generations — such as air quality, energy and climate change programs, and water supply.
This is the second year Portland has topped the list of sustainable cities. This year, the organization ranked Portland first in energy and climate change policy; knowledge base and communications; green economy; and green building categories, and second in water quality.
