Current Public-Sector Contract Awards
The Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum complex and research organization, has selected Johnson Controls to upgrade the security and fire systems at two of its Suitland, MD, support facilities—the Museum Support Center and the Cultural Resource Center.
As part of the contract, Johnson Controls will design, install, and integrate security and fire alarm systems. Once complete, these improvements will establish security and fire alarm infrastructures at both facilities.
Azteca Enterprises, Inc., Dallas, TX, was awarded a $22,115,100 firm-fixed-price contract for construction of a mission support training facility and a training aids support center for the U.S. Army. Work will be performed at Fort Polk, LA, and is expected to be completed by January 28, 2007. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. There were 432 bids solicited on September 17, 2003, and eight bids were received. The U.S. Army Engineer District, Fort Worth, TX, is the contracting entity.
Viisage, provider of advanced technology identity solutions, today announced that the U.S. Department of State (DOS), Bureau of Consular Affairs Office has selected the company’s face recognition technology to help reduce fraud and increase border security through the Diversity Visa Program.
The combined Viisage and ZN Vision technology was evaluated against two competing solutions and selected based on a number of criteria including accuracy, enrollment process, past performance, price, and technical support. Viisage finalized the previously announced acquisition of ZN Vision Technologies AG on January 23, 2004.
Finjan Software, a provider of proactive content security and management solutions, announced that the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Montana has licensed SurfinShield
Corporate as the preferred desktop solution for department-wide Internet security. The software will provide protection to all desktops including those used for advanced laboratory testing, research, administration, and classroom support.
ITS Services, Inc., overseeing the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enhanced border protection system, selected TransCore’s eGo wireless radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as the standard for its ongoing Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program. Through a $4 million contract with CBP and the prime contractor, ITS, Transcore will deliver more than 170,000 windshield sticker tags and driver identification cards, as well as install inspection booth reader equipment for more than 99 FAST lanes at 22 border crossings.
Hydrogeologic, Inc., Herndon, VA, was awarded a delivery order amount of $716,899 as part of a $40,000,000 cost and firm-fixed-price contract for environmental remediation services by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Work will be performed in geographical boundaries of the Northwestern, South Atlantic (including Puerto Rico), and Southwestern Divisions, and is expected to be completed by September 2008. There were 161 bids solicited on January 28, 2003, and eight bids were received.
Implant Sciences Corp. has been awarded a $1.7 million contract by the U.S. Navy to deliver three Quantum Sniffers, handheld, portable, trace explosives detection devices. The device detects six specific explosives from their vapors alone.
Raytheon Co. has been awarded a new contract for work on Common Services for Borrowers (CSB) program by CSB prime contractor ACS Education Solutions, LLC (ACS). The award is potentially worth $168 million over the 10-year life of the contract, which features a five-year base contract with five one-year option periods.
The CSB program, initiated by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA), will play an integral role in combining the servicing, consolidation, and collections of business operations and functions. CSB will streamline and reengineer FSA’s business processes to deliver significant improvements in managing its student aid obligations.
InterSense, Inc., a provider of precision motion tracking for simulation and training, was awarded a Phase I SBIR contract by the U.S. Army Re-search, Development, and Engineering Command (RDECOM) titled “Cockpit Helmet Tracking System Using Miniature Inertial Reference Sensors.” The contract’s goal is to develop and demonstrate the world’s most advanced cockpit helmet tracker.

Telenor Satellite Services, a provider of global communications services via satellite has been awarded a GSA Federal Telecommunications Service (GSA/FTS) contract. Under the competitively awarded contract, government agencies and other appropriate organizations can obtain a full suite of data, high-speed data, and premium quality voice applications for both worldwide and domestic mobile satellite communications.
