Law-enforcement Flashlight Includes Alcohol Detector
By using a new flashlight, called PAS IV, officers can obtain an alcohol reading, while remaining up to 10 ins. away from the suspected person or source. A simple press of the flashlight’s sensor button activates the built-in detector to “sniff” ambient air, a person’s breath, open containers, or enclosed spaces for the presence and approximate concentration of alcohol. Within 10 secs., a calibrated reading of the alcohol level appears on color-coded LEDs (light emitting diodes), displayed as a bar graph on flashlight’s handle. Officers can also rely on the flashlight’s bright beam of more than 50,000 candlepower to illuminate nighttime patrols. PAS IV allows for passive, non-intrusive alcohol detection, without active participation from the suspect, to determine if there is probable cause for arrest. Decatur Electronics, Inc., Decatur, IL
