New York county moves data setup to the cloud
Orange County, N.Y., has implemented four modules of the Mo’mix Performance Center for Public Sector Business Intelligence and Reporting System. The cloud-based, Software as a Service (SaaS) is integrated to Oracle E-Business Suite applications.
With countywide deployment, county employees have access to reports and historical data analysis capabilities for a variety of functions, including Financial Reporting, Projects & Grants, Procurement, and Human Capital Management (HCM) Reporting. The system, which is available on an annual subscription basis, aims to enhance both internal and external transparency for data users in an organization.
As part of a multi-year project that included the implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite for business management, Austin, Texas-based Mo’mix Solutions worked with the county to achieve the county’s enterprise-wide goals for using technology to streamline business processes and provide accessibility to data for decision-making. The company works with public sector and higher education organizations to improve operational performance by leveraging their enterprise resource planning (ERP) technology solutions to meet business objectives.
Richard Mayfield, the county’s director of operations and acting IT commissioner, said: “The county has already realized significant productivity improvements since the implementation of Performance Center. In the time period from January to May alone, over 52 staff days have been saved plus more than 62 days from external consultants, an estimated preliminary savings of more than $200,000 per year. With 70 to 80 percent of corporate business intelligence projects considered failures, an ROI of this magnitude demonstrates that government business intelligence projects can deliver measurable success.”
The system’s capability to provide access to a secure, online environment for reporting supports the New York State Comptroller’s Green Initiative by reducing the need for paper printing of reports.
Mo’mix vice president Janice D’Aloia told Govpro: “Performance Center delivers secure business intelligence to all types of consumers of information — executives, staff, and external stakeholders — from their own unique perspectives.” She said that Performance Center can take in any data source regardless of format from the client’s system to departmental systems, even Excel spreadsheets.
“Performance Center Procurement Intelligence,” said D’Aloia, “allows for organizations’ spend information to be actionable through robust analytics. Performance Center Spend Analytics allows business users to slice and dice their spend data to get the business insight needed to control costs and risks, increase savings and apply aggregate spend management across suppliers and commodities required for better buying decisions and contract renegotiations.”
