Annual procurement conference heads to Texas this spring
Austin, Texas-based Periscope Holdings is hosting Evolve’13, a procurement conference for thought leaders, from April 1-3 at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas. At the meeting, attendees will learn how to take ordinary procurement processes and transition them into strategic practices that eradicate waste and bring value to every dollar spent.
The conference draws procurement officials from states, counties, cities, special districts, school systems, non-profits and publicly funded hospitals. Show organizers are expecting 40 to 60 attendees at this year’s meeting. NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement is one of the sponsors of the event.
Some of the items on the 2013 meeting agenda include:
• Best practice training from respected procurement leaders;
• NIGP Code & BuySpeed training sessions;
• Education on how to take an agency’s purchasing data and translate it into strategy;
• Purchasing professionals nationwide will discuss the future of procurement, trends, and obstacles.
At the meeting, attendees will be given the tools to become leaders in public sector procurement. The tools give attendees the ability to be a force behind the change to make a difference in government spending. The program sessions provide attendees with a purpose-driven approach to convert traditional procurement processes into strategic practices.
The keynote speaker at Evolve’13 will be Gilbert Tuhabonye. He is the author of “This Voice in My Heart: A Genocide Survivor’s Story of Escape, Faith, and Forgiveness.” The book offers an inspiring tale of Tuhabonye’s courageous escape in 1993 from one of the massacres in the Tutsi-Hutu war of Burundi.
By 1996, Tuhabonye’s running skills took him to the United States as part of an Olympic training program. He obtained a track scholarship at Abilene Christian University and was a national champion runner. Tuhabonye is the award-winning coach of Gilbert’s Gazelles Training Group in Texas. In 2006, he co-founded the Gazelle Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve life for people in Burundi without regard to tribal affiliations.
