‘Green Awards’ entries due Sunday
Civic leaders and others who work to make their communities more environmentally friendly are eligible for recognition by Minneapolis-based food company General Mills’ Green Giant brand’s “Green Awards” program. Entries for the contest must be received by Sunday.
The Green Awards will recognize and reward everyday people who are making the world a better, more sustainable place, according to the company. The Green Civic Leader category is open to local government elected officials, such as mayors, city council members, aldermen and judges, as well as civil employees. Other categories include Green Local Organizer, Green Entrepreneur and Green Parent.
In each category, one grand prize winner will be awarded $25,000 and two Runner-Up First Prizes will receive $2,500, which could be used as seed money toward their environmental cause or initiative. Entries must be received by March 6, and members of the public are invited to vote for the best entries from March 12 to March 27. All 12 finalists will be flown to The Green Awards presentation in Los Angeles in May, where the grand prize winner will be revealed.
