UPPCC certifies newest batch of public purchasing pros

The Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) reports that 187 public purchasers successfully completed the fall 2010 UPPCC certification examinations administered Oct. 18-30.

The Herndon, Va.-based Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) reports that 187 public purchasers successfully completed the fall 2010 UPPCC certification examinations administered Oct. 18-30.

Individuals who passed the exams receive either the Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) or Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) credential, which demonstrate a candidate’s comprehensive knowledge of public procurement.

Of the 187 newly certified professionals, 125 earned the CPPB certification, and 62 earned the CPPO certification. With this latest round of certifications, the total number certified for CPPB and CPPO rises to 8,482 and 1,953 respectively. Most of the certified individuals work in the U.S. and Canada.

To get either UPPCC certification, candidates must demonstrate, through an application process, that they meet specific requisites, including formal education, procurement-related coursework/training and public purchasing employment experience.

A comprehensive written examination (specific to each certification) is required to confirm the candidate’s mastery of a variety of public procurement concepts found in the UPPCC Body of Knowledge.

The next examinations for both CPPO and CPPB are scheduled for May 2-14, 2011. The application deadline for the May exams is Jan. 31, 2011.

The Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) is an independent entity formed to govern and administer the Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) and Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) certification programs.
