Just exercising his First Amendment rights
Nature abhors a vacuum, so after the Bluff City, Tenn., Police Department let its website expire, the ownership void was quickly filled by a man who used it to gripe about traffic cameras. Bluff City Police Chief David Nelson said the officer who managed the site had been on medical leave, and the expiration slipped up on the department, according to the Associated Press.
That’s when computer network designer Brian McCrary, who says he received a $90 speeding citation earlier this year, took over the site May 22. McCrary says that when he discovered the site was up for grabs, he paid domain provider Go Daddy for the rights to www.bluffcitypd.com. His site now shows a smiling cartoon police badge clutching green currency and gripes from others who have been cited.
