Get up to speed on government web applications at conference
The seventh annual Web Manager University’s Government Web and New Media Conference, to be held April 27-28 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C., will have sessions on how government can create a culture of openness, innovation, citizen engagement and customer service. Conference sessions will also cover social media applications in government.
Federal, state and local government web and new media professionals will be at the affair, which is sponsored by the federal General Services Administration’s (GSA) Office of Citizen Services and Communications and the Federal Web Managers Council. Web experts from within government as well as executives from private sector companies, including Amazon, Starbucks and Craigslist, will be at the conference. A total of 500 attendees are expected.
The fee to attend the meeting is $250 for federal, state, or local U.S. government employees. The fee is $375 for government contractors with a .gov email address.
“The meeting will cover social media and open government principles that all levels of government need to embrace,” said Steve Hoffman, a spokesperson for GSA. “There will be a wealth of information at the conference about how all levels of government can use social media and open government to benefit their particular citizens.”
Hoffman told Govpro.com that web managers and general administrators can benefit from attending the sessions. “The conference is suited for government officials who are looking for new ways to reach out to their citizens and customers.”
Others who should benefit include new media directors, content writers, public affairs specialists, and others who work to improve how the government communicates online.
GSA Administrator Martha Johnson will kick off the conference at 8:45 a.m. on April 27. Other speakers include: Vivek Kundra, Federal Chief Information Officer; David McClure, GSA Associate Administrator, Office of Citizen Services and Communications; Macon Phillips, Special Assistant to the President and White House Director of New Media; Chris Bruzzo, Starbucks Coffee vice president, Brand, Content & Online; and Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist.org.
