No place for truth
Antwon Womack was not one to let a little something like the truth get in the way of his political ambitions.
In August, Womack, then a candidate for the Birmingham, Ala., Board of Education, made several claims about his achievements in his biography for a Facebook page dedicated to his campaign, including that he was a 23-year-old West End High School graduate who had received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Ala., according to The Birmingham News.
None of those claims were true, Womack later admitted. However, the ersatz educator, who is actually a 21-year-old high school drop out, initially vowed to continue his run for office even after his embellishments were revealed. “I have been told not to drop out of the race,” Womack told The News. “I apologize to District 6 voters for this … This here is not the end of the world.” The next day, Aug. 20, Womack reversed himself and dropped out of the race, claiming it had “gotten to be too much for me.”
