What’s in a name?
A West Virginia town is known by two names — Berkeley Springs and Bath — possibly creating confusion for visitors. But, city officials do not plan to create a single name for the town, according to The Associated Press (AP). Bath, named by George Washington in 1776 after Bath, England, is the town’s official name. However, its 19th-century post office was named Berkeley Springs because another town called Bath was located south of the community. “We like the confusion,” Mayor Susan Webster told AP. “It makes us different.”
Oh, where has my dog gone?
In February, Alice, Texas, Mayor Grace Saenz-Lopez resigned amid accusations that she stole her neighbor’s dog. Last summer, Saenz-Lopez’s neighbors left their Shih Tzu “Puddles” in her care while they were on vacation, according to AP. Before their return, the mayor told the family the dog had died, but the neighbor’s relative spotted it three months later. Saenz-Lopez refused to return the dog, claiming it would be in danger. Saenz-Lopez was charged with tampering and concealing evidence. “It was never my intention to bring any negative exposure to our city,” she wrote in a resignation letter.
