Developers of a beef processing plant in Brown County, S.D., are asking the county to establish a tax increment finance (TIF) district to pay for the plant. A TIF, if approved, would allow the owners of Northern Beef Packers to use property taxes to pay for the $16 million in expenses of improving the property on which the plant will be built, according to the Aberdeen News. One county commissioner says the county can’t afford to go without the income.
