Mayor John Street announced this week that the city would begin enforcing its ban on smoking in public places immediately, though some businesses are surprised by the sudden crackdown, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer/ Daily News. Health inspectors will issue warnings for first offenses, a $25 fine for the second offense and then $300 for every other offense.
