Saying it would drive away much-needed jobs, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley vetoed a proposed ordinance that would require major retailers to pay employees at least $10 an hour. Three aldermen who voted for the ordinance changed their minds on Tuesday, one saying the ordinance would have hurt the people it was meant to help, according to the Chicago Tribune. The city council was expected to vote on whether to override Daley’s veto at Wednesday’s meeting.
