Bridging the gap
Sandra Weightman, network manager for Fort Myers, Fla., took this photo of Simpson Creek Covered Bridge in Harrison County, W.Va. A.S. Hugill built the 75-foot-long by 14-foot-wide multiple king-post truss bridge in 1881 for $1,483. It survived a flood in 1888 but was washed away from its original site one-half mile upstream in 1899. The bridge was restored in 2002 for $363,000.
