A measure on the ballot for the Nov. 7 election in Phoenix could require the city’s police officers and employees to enforce federal immigration laws. The initiative, proposed by the Protect Our City group that favors immigration control, would require the city to seek a formal agreement with the Department of Homeland Security to designate local officers as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, according to The Arizona Republic. The president of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association says the measure would interfere with officers’ ability to handle daily emergencies.
