Commission vote threatens Nevada bridge project
One of the country’s biggest construction projects could be hitting a concrete wall as a result of one county commission’s decision. Federal officials say work on the $234 million Hoover Dam bypass bridge in Clark County, Nev., could come to a halt since the county commission voted to deny a permit to Casino Ready Mix, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Casino Ready Mix is a subcontractor on the project, and Obayashi Corp., the company that is building the Colorado River Bridge section of the bypass, says only Casino Ready Mix can provide the right product for the job. Republican members of the commission are blaming union politics for the vote while Democrats are saying Casino Ready Mix broke the law by operating without a permit. http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/sun/2006/may/08/566680409.html
