EXTRA, EXTRA/Discovering roadblocks to sharing data
How well do your local and state criminal justice agencies share information, and how can they improve? To help answer those questions, the Center for Technology in Government at the University at Albany, N.Y., has released a workbook and complementary Web site for justice agencies. “Sharing Justice Information: A Capability Assessment Toolkit” includes materials and instructions for assessing organizations, technologies and policies that help or inhibit agencies from sharing information. The workbook can be used to determine how to improve communication in a single agency or among many state and local agencies. Developed by the center, the National Governor’s Association, National Association of State Chief Information Officers and the Justice Information Sharing Professionals, the toolkit is available in pdf format at http://www.ctg.albany.edu/publications/guides/sharing_justice_info, and the online, interactive version is available at http://catoolkit.ojp.gov.
