EXTRA, EXTRA/And they call it poopy love
One dog owner might not think much about leaving his pet’s waste on the ground, but when millions of dog owners think the same way, they can cause big problems for the environment. To teach dog owners about the water quality problems that can result from pet waste, the Regional Storm Water Management Program for the North Central Texas Council of Governments launched an education campaign last month called “DOO the Right Thing.” Through a Web site, signs at dog parks and ads, the campaign reminds pet owners to properly dispose of their dog’s doo to prevent disease-causing organisms and viruses found in animal waste from washing into area waterways. The campaign invites dog owners to officially pledge to always “DOO the Right Thing” and clean up after their pets.
