The mayor of Park Ridge, Ill., has resigned. According to the Chicago Tribune, Mayor Ron Wietecha announced his resignation, effective immediately, on Monday. Wietecha, who served as mayor for 12 years, cited “personal reasons and a desire to start a new chapter in his life,” according to the paper. The City Council has scheduled a meeting for Oct. 7 to choose an acting mayor, who will hold the office until the 2005 mayoral election. For more information, visit
