$6.7 Million Funds Projects For At-Risk Youth, Families
The Department of Agriculture has announced $6.7 million to fund 13 new and 33 renewal projects under the National Children, Youth, and Families At-Risk (CYFAR) program.
Since 1991, CYFAR, administered by USDA’s Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service, has supported more than 600 communities in every state and territory. Land-grant university Cooperative Extension offices distribute CYFAR dollars to selected at-risk community sites in their states. The federal appropriation has been matched or sometimes exceeded by both public and private funding.
The 13 new projects for 2003 include:

HAWAII: University of Hawaii, Honolulu, “Networking, Collaborating and Partnering for Effective Community and Family Program” ($150,000)
MASSACHUSSETTS: University of Massachusetts, Amherst, “Expanding 4-H Youth Development in Massachusetts Communities” ($120,000)
NEBRASKA: University of Nebraska, Lincoln, “Communities Together Can” ($120,000)
NEW JERSEY: Rutgers, New Brunswick, “Cultivating Youth and Communities for Positive Futures” ($150,000)
NORTH DAKOTA: North Dakota State University, Fargo, “Building Connections” ($149,765)

Thirty-three ongoing CYFAR projects were renewed with $4.8 million of the total $6.7 million.
