Director of Public Works
The City of Portland, Maine (population 65,000) seeks a Director of Public Works. The Director is responsible for the overall management of public works programs including solid waste, winter operations, customer service, engineering and vehicle maintenance and sewer, streets and sidewalk construction and maintenance. The Director reports to the City Manager. The Department has 160 employees and a $10 million operating budget exclusive of the CIP budget. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, engineering or a related field; master’s degree is a plus. The finalist will be an experienced and innovative operations manager and administrator, who possesses outstanding communication, organizational and leadership skills. Experience in a unionized labor/management environment required. The ideal candidate will have a proven commitment to team-building, a track record of improving service delivery, and demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the community, employees, and other agencies. Salary dependent on qualifications. Salary range is $69,264 to $79,658. Excellent benefits package including a City vehicle.
