This week’s winner is Stephen Ambers, safety officer for the Fort Myers, Fla., Legal/Risk Management Department. His photo depicts “Unconditional Surrender,” a 26-foot-tall statue replicating the famous image of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square following President Truman’s announcement in August 1945 that the Japanese had surrendered. The statue by Seward Johnson — made of painted molded foam — is part of a Sarasota sculpture exhibit in Bayfront Park that includes 26 other works.
This week’s snapshot winner is Gary Layda, metropolitan government photographer for Nashville, Tenn.’s Photographic Services. The composite photo, which combines three separate images, depicts a Fourth of July fireworks display and a crowd of onlookers at Riverfront Park. The city’s fireworks show is rated third in the nation by the American Pyrotechnics Association.
