Edinburg School
Retired School Superintendent Dr. B. Keith Brown pioneered the idea to revitalize the decrepit Edinburg School. Constructed in 1932, the aging facility needed renovation due to asbestos, accessibility issues, ventilation problems and energy inefficiencies. The county wanted their own special-needs school facility to reduce expenses for transportation and tuition fees from enrolling students in non-local programs. By renovating Edinburg School last year, the problem was solved. Using the Public-Private Education and Infrastructure Act, the Shenandoah County preserved the school?s historic integrity while making it usable once more. A partnership was formed with the United Methodist Family Services Charterhouse School using a lease arrangement that resulted in no additional tax on residents.
