“Today, well over 500 public-safety answering point (PSAPs) are now able to receive 911 texts, up from just over 100 a year and half ago, and the pace of text-to-911 adoption is accelerating,” says Patrick Botz, Director of Engagement at NICE Public Safety.
He adds that as text-to-911 momentum builds, PSAPs are actively implementing Next Generation 911 networks and technologies capable of delivering other communication channels like video calls, along with additional sensor and telematics data to the 911 call taker.
Botz explains that PSAPs are investing in future-proof solutions for managing multimedia incident information, such as his firm’s NICE Inform. Those systems, he says, will enable PSAPS to effectively capture, manage and derive actionable insights from 911 texts and the growing volume and variety of multimedia information.
