Methodology + Grading Scale
In determining its 2017 Infrastructure Report Card for America, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)'s 28-member Committee on America's Infrastructure reviewed many different reports, spoke with industry experts and assigned grades based on the following eight catagories:
- Capacity
- Condition
- Funding level
- Future need and cost to improve
- Operations and maintenance ability
- Public safety
- Resilience
- Innovation.
The ASCE's grading scale was:
- A = Exceptional, fit for the future
- B = Good, adequate for now
- C = Mediocre, requires attention
- D = Poor, at risk
- F = Failing/Critical, unfit for purpose.
