Mayor Paul Soglin, Madison, Wis.
Madison, Wis., Mayor Paul Soglin tells GPN that 2017 is shaping up to be another year of significant investment in the city’s infrastructure. “Madison is one of the top ranked cities in the country. We continue to grow. That growth requires investments to extend services, update and replace aging infrastructure, and ensure upward mobility for all our residents,” says the mayor.
The mayor offers an example: “Madison is at the center of one of the most productive agricultural regions in the country and world. We are in the planning and design stage for a new public market to draw on our local food economy and to promote entrepreneurialism and create jobs. This is a public-private venture that will help foster new businesses in our city and region.”
Current plans call for developing the Public Market as part of redevelopment of a decades old shopping mall along a major arterial street that is booming with new residential buildings, restaurants, entertainment venues and offices. The city is reaching out to private participants for support, along with New Market Tax Credits, tax increment financing and city general obligation debt.
